2nd IEPEC 2023 Houses at MCC

The 2nd International Ethics and Peace Education Conference 2023 with the theme "Ethical Perspectives and Peace Education Initiatives for Human Transformation housed in Mabalacat City College. The two-day event held on 31 July to 01 August 2023 brought together educators and peace advocates from both the Philippines and abroad at MCC MB103.

The Education Channel (TEC) organized this IEPEC to explore ways to foster human transformation through ethical perspectives and peace education in partnership with Philippine National Philosophical Research Society (PNPRS), Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) and MCC. MCC actively engaged in the conference as a partner institution and advocate peace promotion as well as succor Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, which aims to create peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.

The conference's 1st day commenced with a thought-provoking keynote seminar by the Learning Management Systems Director at Florida State University Dr. Jeffrey Milligan entitled, “I Could be Wrong: Countering Violent Extremism through the reconciliation of Knowledge and Faith in Democratic Religion”. Following the session was research presentations about the importance of peace education, its potential incorporation into classroom settings and ethical considerations by educators from different parts of the country either in person or online.

Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, the President of MCC, emphasized the significance of fostering peace in our communities. "As a community college, we need to teach our children. We need to tell them that we can thrive in a world that may be very modern, that can be very industrial, but it can be a harmonious world for all of us," she highlighted.

Throughout the event, four plenary sessions were conducted, each delving into topics related to peace education and ethical considerations. On the 1st day, discussion that covered Peace Education was presented by the HWPL Peace Education Team Manager Ms. Esperanza De La Cruz. Additionally, PhD candidate from National Dong Hwa University Mr. Jayson Troy Bajar shed light on the Comparative Case Study of Ethical Frameworks for Social Research in the Philippines and Taiwan.

On the 2nd day, Associate Professor in the College of Education at Florida State University Dr. Christine Mokher discussed Ethical Consideration in the Use of Educational Data, while University of Santo Tomas Professor and the Executive Director of PNPRS Dr. Jove Jim Aguas tackled Man's Moral Standing and His Triadic Responsibility.

The activity was a collaborative effort, with MCC faculty and staff actively participating onsite while representatives from PNPRS and HWPL, as well as other educators from various parts of the world, joined in the conference synchronously. The Conference Convenor and President of Urdaneta City University Dr. Amihan April Alcazar provided insightful comments for every speaker and research presenter in the activity.

Through supporting and participating such conference, Mabalacat City College demonstrated its dedication to promoting peace and creating a harmonious world for all. MCC celebrates with TEC in the success of this event and eagerly looking forward to engage with activities where the institution can ardently contribute.

In partnership with Mabalacat Community High School and supported by the MCC Campus Youth Ministry, the event transformed the campus into a vibrant display of global citizenship.
