Mabalacat City College Celebrates Sanitation Workers Appreciation Day

On June 17th during Global Garbage Man Day, the world takes time to recognize the dedicated efforts of the men and women who keep the communities clean. Oftentimes, they are being described as the people who collect garbage, recyclables, and scraps from houses and neighborhoods by a variety of names. People often appreciate their regular arrival, whether they are sanitation workers or commonly known as Garbage Man.

In line with this, Mabalacat City College celebrates its first Sanitation Workers Appreciation Day at the Student Center. To show appreciation, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension Services together with the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Office of the Vice President for External Affairs, Office of the President, and Office of the Vice President for Administration shared their tokens of gratitude to each Sanitation Workers of the College.

Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, College President, shared in her official statement that, “At MCC, we honor these men and women today. Sila ay napakahalagang miyembro ng ating komunidad sapagkat sila ang nagpapanatili ng kalinisan at kaayusan ng bawat opisina at paligid ng eskwelahan. Sa taon na ito, walang naitala na sakit o karamdaman ang lahat ng empleyado ng MCC na dulot ng kapabayaan sa sanitasyon at yun ay resulta ng responsableng pagganap nila sa kanilang mga tungkulin. Tayo ay lubos na nagpapasalamat sa kanilang kasipagan at dedikasyon”. “Sanitation Workers Appreciation Day is policy-protected so they expect an annual celebration”, Dr. Ong added.

On behalf of the Local Government of Mabalacat, Hon. Crisostomo C. Garbo said that “I am really grateful sa ating mga sanitation workers na nagpapanatili ng kalinisan ng ating kapaligiran. Ako ay lubos na nagagalak sa kasipagan ng ating mga mangagawa sa MCC.”

As such, sanitation workers also shared their gratitude to the institution and to the community they serve. “Thank you, Dr. Mich Ong, at sa lahat ng bumubuo ng MCC, thank you so much for the blessings”, Mr. Ramonchito said.  MCC awarded the sanitation workers for their dedication and hard work in maintaining the cleanliness of the community, thus envisioned the institutions’ goal of promoting environmental awareness.

On December 18, 2024, a group of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management students presented their sustainability action study to the manager of Slaps Bistro, a Samgyupsal Korean restaurant located in Dolores, Mabalacat City, Pampanga. The project was part of their final output for the Contemporary World course, aimed at addressing real-world issues through practical solutions.

MCC Students Sustain: H2-WHOA, Every Drop Counts Project

Mabalacat City College’s hospitality management students initiated a project entitles H2-WHOA, EVERY DROP COUNTS. The initiative aims to address water waste in restaurants by promoting the segregation and reuse of melted ice. After conducting immersions and studies at La Gracia’s Buffet Restaurant in Mabalacat City, the students identified a significant issue: the routine disposal of ice into sinks, leading to unnecessary water wastage.
