For the working community, it is a must to know labor rights even before being employed. This will help individuals to avoid companies who do not comply with the Labor Code of the Philippines.

As such, Mabalacat City College Career and Placement Office conducted a webinar entitled “Know Your Rights: A Webinar on the Labor Code of the Philippines” held last May 27, 2021, that aimed to highlight the importance of community awareness and the institutions’ vision of producing responsible citizens in line with the knowledge on labor laws. It was participated by all 4th Year Students and 2nd Year ACT Students.

Ms. Camille Galura from the Department of Labor shared her knowledge and experience with regards to the Labor Code of the Philippines, duties, and responsibilities of the employer and employee. “It is a must, that as early as possible we already knew some basic principles before even getting employed”, she said.

It was mentioned that aside from knowing the basic labor standards, every employee must also be aware of the labor benefits such as Minimum Wage, Premium Pay, Meal Period, Overtime Pay, 13th Month Pay, Night Shift Differential, Weekly Rest Day, Holiday Pay, Service Incentive Leave, Expanded Maternity Leave, Paternity Leave, Solo Parent Leave, VAWC Leave and Magna Carta of Women. Thus, the session enabled different students from different institutes to fully understand the initiatives of the local government in spreading labor awareness.
