MCC Embarks on a Big Project for Sitio Haduan

Mabalacat City College, MCC Kayantabe Office, and Research and Development Office together with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 3, embarked on a big project for Sitio Haduan, Brgy. Marcos Village, Mabalacat City through a Rapid Rural Assessment (RRA) held last February 17, 2021.

The main issues identified that need interventions are the following: establishment of cooperative and associations for livelihood opportunities and regulation, vulnerable population of Balakat trees, lack of a water filter, lack of training on organic farming, lack of training on pest management, and a functional health center. The said activity was conducted to help identify the specific community interventions and conservation strategies needed by the community of Sitio Haduan, Marcos Village.

This endeavor is an 8 million pesos tripartite project of Mabalacat City College, Department of Science and Technology, and the Local Government of Mabalacat City, having MCC Kayantabe as the chief implementing office. MCC Kayantabe is the community extension office of Mabalacat City College and is primarily in charge of forging partnerships with the community. It is also the advocacy center of MCC that is currently centered on literacy improvement, environmental awareness, and cultural preservation. “Kayantabe” is a Kapampangan word that means, “companion”.

Leveraging educational opportunities for Indigenous Peoples (IP), Mabalacat City College participated in the first-ever IP Scholars Regional Summit at Pampanga State Agricultural University on 29 May 2024. The event themed, “Ihip, Daloy at Sinag: Pagtatagpo ng Landas, Pagtahak sa Pangarap,” was part of the 30th CHED Anniversary and the 4th Higher Education Day.

Seedlings Planted for River Restoration

Continuing the Sapang Balen River Restoration commitment sealed between MCC-IAS and the CENRO of LGU Mabalacat, the Institute of Arts and Sciences faculty and staff, once again challenged the heat index of May 8, 2024 and headed to Barangay Poblacion, to plant some calamansi seedlings along the banks of Sapang Balen, Mabalacat City. The tree planting activity is the initial stage of the many lined up activities aimed at restoring the river and its flora and fauna to eventually improve the river ecosystem.

MCC Kayantabe participates in Pampanga Bamboo Bootcamp 2023

Mabalacat City College (MCC) Kayantabe attended the Pampanga Bamboo Bootcamp 2023 at Pampanga State Agricultural University on 24 October 2023. Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), this training aimed to equip participants with knowledge and skills on bamboo handicraft and infrastructures. It also encouraged active participation and cooperation of all provincial bamboo industry development stakeholders.
