MCC Kayantabe and Global Peace Foundation Conduct Tree Planting Project

Mabalacat City College (MCC) joined the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), an international non-sectarian, non-partisan, nonprofit organization in a tree planting project in celebration of International Volunteers Day, on 01 December 2022, at Sitio Haduan.

The event was participated by 38 Second Year Social Studies students of Ms. Carol Arboleda together with 5 faculty and staff from MCC.  No more than this number could be allowed as the hanging bridge of Sitio Haduan can only accommodate about five people at one time for safety purposes.

Joining them are international and local guests and members of GPF, coming from Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia. Participants from Zamboanga State College, Cebu Technological University, Cagayan State University, and City College of San Fernando were also present.

The short program before the tree planting commenced with a welcome remark from Roy Tanglao, the Chieftain of Sitio Haduan.

Dr. Florida Labuguen, the Executive Director of the  Philippines Society of NSTP and Implementers Inc., and an active prime mover and advocate of peace education in various capacities explained that the purpose of the activity was to save the environment.

100 bamboo cuttings were planted along the creek to control soil erosion. This love for the environment just aligns with one major advocacy area of MCC Kayantabe, which is, Environmental Protection.

Everybody participated enthusiastically in the event as it also served as a channel to meet other people from various parts of the country, as well as some neighbors from Southeast Asia.
