MCC, Mutya Publishing House Inc. Signs MOA Promoting Sustainable Learning

Mabalacat City, Philippines – Mabalacat City College (MCC) and Mutya Publishing House Inc. (Mutya Publishing) inked a Memorandum of Agreement on 11 May 2023. This partnership intends to publish books authored by MCC faculty as learning materials for students and to promote the professional growth of its faculty.

The contents of the worktexts are particularly contextualized to cater international, national, and local audience aligning with MCC's commitment to being a community-driven institution that prioritizes the needs of its students and the community.

Worktexts will be printed on newsprint, an eco-friendly material to integrate MCC’s advocacy on Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 12, which promotes sustainable consumption and production patterns. The first set of books will be about General Education Worktext. These are set to be released before the start of the academic year 2023-2024.

This is the first time that Mutya Publishing is partnering with a local community college. VP for Operation Mr. Jerome Katipunan, emphasized that the expectation on both parties is very high. “We have to be at par with your [MCC] team, and I know with God’s help and with the help of your ever-loving president and our company it will be realizing into a [worktext]”.

“I am very happy about this partnership because I really believe that a local college like us need to publish its own material” Dr. Aguilar-Ong expressing her enthusiasm in this partnership. “The students we attract here are for workforce, they are more on technical things. They work on things with the use of hands, and we need to interpret [books] for them right away.” 

MCC constantly delivers steadfast support to students and community by forging different partnerships, providing community-driven learning and emphasizing sustainability. MCC and Mutya Publishing’s partnership substantiates the dedication of the institution to enhancing its services for its students and community. 

MCC management and staff also attended the event including VP for Global Relations, Opportunities, and Workforce Development Prof. Raymond John D. Vergara, AVP for Academic Affairs Dr. Romeo Erese III, AVP for Student Life Prof. Beejay Sebastian, Mr. Kevin Peralta, Engr. Ken Policarpio, IAS Dean Dr. Marilyn Arcilla, IBCE Dean Dr. Josephine Evangelista, IHTM Dean Ms. Jennyfer Merza, and ITE Representative Mr. Celter Torres. Mutya Publishing House Inc. was represented by VP for Operation Mr. Jerome Katipunan, Editor-in-Chief Mrs. Maria Teresa Antonino, Sales Manager Ms. Ryan De Gracia, Editorial Head Mr. Alvin Cortes and Business Development Coordinator Mr. Adrian Magsumbol.

Recognizing the vital role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) institutions in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Mabalacat City College participated the first quarterly meeting of the Universities SDG Action Network (USAN)-Pampanga, on 24 February 2025 at DHVSU Hostel. Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region III and six partner universities and colleges also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their commitment in this initiative.

MCC Exhibits First-Ever TISArt at National Arts Month Celebration

In celebration of the National Arts Month, Mabalacat City College hosted the first-ever TISArt, a chalk art exhibit, on 22 February 2025 in its annual art exhibit. This is in collaboration student organizations, PANTALAKAYAN and Campus Youth Ministry with this year’s theme is “Leguan: Balakat Art Exhibit,” held at Tabnuan: Mabalacat Cultural Center.
