MCC Participates in CCA-PREO International Research Conference 2023

Angeles City, Pampanga – Mabalacat City College actively participated in the City College of Angeles-Pampanga Research Educators Organization (CCA-PREO) International Research Conference held on 8 November 2023 at Century Hotel. The conference themed "Academe and Research: Addressing the Role of Scholarly Inquiry in Attaining Sustainability and Innovation," aimed to provide workshops for representatives from various schools and learning advocates, enhancing their knowledge about research aspects applicable in their academic fields.

Institute of Arts and Sciences Instructor April Ann Galang, Center for Community Research and Innovation Institutional and Community Research Coordinator Larrey Ordoñez, and Research and Innovation Project Coordinator Cyril Ann Abalos represented MCC. Precedent to the lecture, Chairman of the Pampanga Research Educators Organization delivered the welcoming remarks.

The presentation of Dr. Elmer D. Bondoc from Holy Angel University covered topics on Philosophy, Methods, and Reporting findings – foundational elements crucial for researchers conducting qualitative research. Additionally,   Dr. Bondoc clarified misconceptions about qualitative research, emphasizing the importance of reviewing related literature and selecting proper methodologies. An interactive activity, encouraging audience participation through questioning and idea sharing concluded his part. The second and third parts covered Phenomenology and Sampling, and the Phases of Phenomenology, providing insights into handling collected data and the proper methodologies.

Subsequently, Dr. Cham Tat-Huei from UCSI University, Malaysia, delved into various aspects of Quantitative Research, the importance of publishing, and international perspectives beyond the Philippines. He offered strategies and tips for producing quality and impactful research studies that contribute to the body of knowledge. Furthermore, he explained the fundamentals of quantitative research, its components, and the proper application methods, concluding with a question-and-answer segment.

PREO President and CCA Officer-in-Charge Dr. Jean Paolo G. Lacap emphasized how research provides an intellectually stimulating experience that brings together the minds of people. "Research plays a huge role, allowing us to think critically and advocate for facts," he noted in his closing remarks.

This convergence becomes the root of knowledge and answers to academic curiosity. It also showcased how scholars, researchers, and professionals can be advocates of truth, sharing their passion for advancing knowledge. The event fostered connections that transcended borders, uniting teachers, students and the community dedicated to pushing the boundaries of human understanding.

Leveraging educational opportunities for Indigenous Peoples (IP), Mabalacat City College participated in the first-ever IP Scholars Regional Summit at Pampanga State Agricultural University on 29 May 2024. The event themed, “Ihip, Daloy at Sinag: Pagtatagpo ng Landas, Pagtahak sa Pangarap,” was part of the 30th CHED Anniversary and the 4th Higher Education Day.

Seedlings Planted for River Restoration

Continuing the Sapang Balen River Restoration commitment sealed between MCC-IAS and the CENRO of LGU Mabalacat, the Institute of Arts and Sciences faculty and staff, once again challenged the heat index of May 8, 2024 and headed to Barangay Poblacion, to plant some calamansi seedlings along the banks of Sapang Balen, Mabalacat City. The tree planting activity is the initial stage of the many lined up activities aimed at restoring the river and its flora and fauna to eventually improve the river ecosystem.
