Quarantalks: Mind Matters Maintaining Good Mental Health Amidst the Pandemic

May 31, 2021

The pandemic brought by Covid-19 dealt an impact on the life of different individuals across the world. Global healthcare is associated with serious concerns, and this includes Mental Health.

Mental Health has emerged as an important public concern this year, thus, Mabalacat City College, through its community service arm, the MCC Kayantabe, in cooperation with MCC Guidance Office, conducted a presentation, QUARANTALKS: MIND MATTERS which premiered on Mabalacat City College’s official Facebook page, last May 31, 2021, hosted by John Patrick David, RPM, Guidance Associate.

The session highlighted tips in taking care of their mental health as it battles the worries and concerns of the Covid-19 pandemic. Mabalaqueños were also asked about their coping strategies that made them survive “Stress, Isolation and Loneliness” during the pandemic. Furthermore, Crisis Health Responders together with the National Center for Mental Health said that a big portion of their call was mainly because of the pandemic. “These figures and numbers were evidence that we are experiencing a Mental Health Crisis”, they added. On the other hand, various efforts from local and national sectors were implemented to address solutions to anxiety and depression via technological advancements in communication.

“I am more concerned about the welfare of our youth since they are still constrained from leaving their homes since the onset of the pandemic. Mental Health is as important as Physical Health. We need to initiate activities to make their time productive and worthwhile without sacrificing the National Government’s policies in protecting every Filipino against the virus”, said Mabalacat City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo in the joint meeting of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) and City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) where he expressed his worries on the increasing cases of depression and suicide in some provinces and cities amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The session remarked that “In battling a crisis every day, there is someone concerned, because you/we are not alone, Mental Health Matters.”
