Seedlings Planted for River Restoration

Continuing the Sapang Balen River Restoration commitment sealed between MCC-IAS and the CENRO of LGU Mabalacat, the Institute of Arts and Sciences faculty and staff, once again challenged the heat index of May 8, 2024 and headed to Barangay Poblacion, to plant some kalamansi seedlings along the banks of Sapang Balen, Mabalacat City. The tree planting activity is the initial stage of the many lined up activities aimed at restoring the river and its flora and fauna to eventually improve the river ecosystem.

Members of CENRO came bearing shovels and trowels and spades helping dig up holes for the plants to occupy. Water dippers came in handy in refreshing the heat saturated plants, once on the ground and freed from their plastic containers.

Headed by the institute Dean, Marilyn S. Arcilla, the endeavor was equally joined by MCC Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management faculty and staff as well as that of the Institute of Teacher Education and their group.

Hot as it was at nine AM in the morning, it was a refreshing activity knowing the plants will thrive along the river banks and will give hope for the River Restoration Project – one seedling at a time.

On December 18, 2024, a group of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management students presented their sustainability action study to the manager of Slaps Bistro, a Samgyupsal Korean restaurant located in Dolores, Mabalacat City, Pampanga. The project was part of their final output for the Contemporary World course, aimed at addressing real-world issues through practical solutions.

MCC Students Sustain: H2-WHOA, Every Drop Counts Project

Mabalacat City College’s hospitality management students initiated a project entitles H2-WHOA, EVERY DROP COUNTS. The initiative aims to address water waste in restaurants by promoting the segregation and reuse of melted ice. After conducting immersions and studies at La Gracia’s Buffet Restaurant in Mabalacat City, the students identified a significant issue: the routine disposal of ice into sinks, leading to unnecessary water wastage.
