SunStar Highlights MCC DigiHubs and THE Awards Asia Shortlist

July 08, 2021

MCC DigiHubs and THE Awards Asia Shortlist were featured in the Opinion Section of SunStar Pampanga. It was mentioned that Mabalacat City College (MCC) scored numerous improvements in terms of its infrastructure and academic programs. SunStar quoted that MCC continuously served the community during the pandemic through its Digital Hubs (DigiHubs).

The idea of DigiHubs committed by Hon. Mayor Crisostomo Garbo in his 2020 State Of the City Address (SOCA), is also attributed to Michelle Aguilar-Ong, College President and members of the MCC Board, also chaired by Hon. Garbo.

“Great minds at work there in MCC. It was an idea that was ahead of its time, in the same vein that the City Government gave laptops to teachers way before the pandemic was also a pro-active program”, SunStar added.

It explained that the DigiHub project of MCC was meant to implement flexible online learning. The project gained its recognition as it won among 156 entries in the SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization) Virtual Congress, last April 2021.

MCC was also recognized for its nomination in two categories, namely: Outstanding Support for Students and Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year in The Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia, a major international platform that recognizes outstanding leadership and institutional performance and celebrates the continent's higher education excellence.

“The award considers the response of learning institutions to the global pandemic. To be on the shortlist alone is already an honor as we share the same stage with the crème of the crop like the National University of Singapore and Yonsei University in South Korea. It is also an outright prestige for MCC as it is THE only Philippine school that made it to the shortlist”, SunStar said.

The MCC Management is determined in adapting to the New Normal through these improvements. MCC believes that equal access means equal opportunity for all students to avail quality education, access to technology and resources, relevant programs, efficient and effective services, and a supportive community amidst the pandemic.
