The Center for Research and Development conducted its 1st Virtual Research Writeshop webinar with the theme "For Local College Evidence-Based Practices: Navigation in Pandemic and Post-Pandemic Era through Multidisciplinary Research and Development" last May 26 & 27, 2021 via Microsoft Teams.
The 2-day writeshop showcased the know-hows of research skills such as inquiry, writing, and publication. Likewise, the session highlighted various approaches and experiences in producing feasible research proposals that meet the needs of the community.
On Day 1 (May 26, 2021), Vice President for Research and Extension and concurrent Dean of the Institute of Arts, Sciences and Teacher Education, Dr. Melanie Viloria-Briones, shared her knowledge on the importance of research to an academic institution, with her topic titled: "Beyond Mere Compliance: Embracing Research as an Integral Part of Personal and Professional Growth in the Academe."
“Through research, we gain new perspectives, we learn dynamic evolution of the self, personally and professionally”, said Dr. Briones. She also shared her method of conducting research.
Furthermore, Dr. Josephine Luz Sampang De Leon-Pineda, Research Coordinator of the College of Education and a Professor from Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University elaborated her research expertise on "Writing Research Proposal and Reference Management” by sharing some examples of how we can develop our thinking skills in designing a comprehensive research study. Eventually, Dr. Luz’s referencing techniques made it easy for the audience to understand what Research is really all about.
On Day 2 (May 27, 2021), Dr. Allan B. De Guzman, the Professor of Research, Curriculum, and Educational Leadership of The Graduate School and Research Center for Social Sciences and Education of the University of Santo Tomas shared his thoughts on the use of indirect ways to obtain necessary data on social science researches with his presentation titled "Utilizing Unobtrusive Research Designs During The Pandemic."
Dr. De Guzman provided his insights on different Method Backgrounds, Scholarship Typologies, Misconceptions, and Models of Research. He emphasized that the creation of new knowledge in a new and creative way to generate new concepts, methodologies, inventions, and understandings is considered Transformative Academic Knowledge.
Afterward, the Dean of the School of Business and Accountancy of Holy Angel University, Dr. Caroline Acosta, introduced her talk "ABC's of Research from Writing to Publication: Building an International Research Mindset" and explained the international standards of research.
Each faculty member of the institution served the purpose of the session by a presentation, a virtual parallel session/writeshop on the different levels of experience in research writing to enhance collaboration in developing manuscripts. This event paved the way in stating the importance and role of research in the field of academics.
