The National Chess Federation of the Philippines Conducts the Grand Finals of the Philippine National Age Group Chess Championships

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) under the auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) through its Chairman, Deputy Speaker Cong. Prospero "Butch" A. Pichay Jr. organized the Grand Finals of the Philippine National Age Group Chess Championships on June 22-25, 2021 (U16, 18 & 20) and June 26-29, 2021 (U8, 10, 12 & 14). The event used an Online Hybrid Tournament Format where players competed against each other via Tornelo Online and Zoom Meeting but with a supervision of a Licensed Local Arbiter.

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) is a private, non-stock, non-profit chess association in the Philippines. It is an official member and duly recognized by World Chess Federation (FIDE). Likewise, affiliated with Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC). Only members of NCFP in good standing can represent our country in any FIDE-rated and sanctioned tournaments both in the Philippines and abroad.

In line with this, Mr. Jayson O. Gonzales, Chief Executive Officer and Tournament Director of NCFP informed Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, MCC President together with Mr. Joselito Abedoza, Sports and Athletics Coordinator, on the selection of the College to be the playing hub of Pampanga. Likewise, Mr. Gabrielle O. Nuqui is one of the qualified participants that represented Mabalacat City. Playing hubs followed IATF protocols that were strictly observed by local arbiters equipped with proper training to ensure the health safety of the involved persons in the venue.

"Taking this opportunity that while we are facing the covid 19 pandemic, we have to permit the growth and development of our young people mentally since chess as sports can be played online", said Cong. Pichay Jr.

“The world of sports has been disrupted due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Consequently, sports leaders, coaches, trainers, and student-athletes were being instructed to cease their training and exercise in their respective schools and universities in line with the health and safety protocols released by IATF. As a result, the student-athletes were primarily affected in this situation and had a major impact on their wellbeing in terms of the physical, mental, and social aspects. Fortunately, the MCC Sports and Athletics Office member of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines was able to collaborate with the NCFP and initiate sports activity. Our main objective is to assist the student-athlete to make their time productive, worthwhile, and most importantly to improve their well-being”, said Mr. Joselito Abedoza, MCC Sports and Athletics Coordinator.

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region III and six partner universities and colleges also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their commitment in this initiative.

MCC Exhibits First-Ever TISArt at National Arts Month Celebration

In celebration of the National Arts Month, Mabalacat City College hosted the first-ever TISArt, a chalk art exhibit, on 22 February 2025 in its annual art exhibit. This is in collaboration student organizations, PANTALAKAYAN and Campus Youth Ministry with this year’s theme is “Leguan: Balakat Art Exhibit,” held at Tabnuan: Mabalacat Cultural Center.
