Providing students, faculty, staff, and the community with insights and opportunities for studying abroad, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), widely known as the German Academic Exchange Service conducted an information session on studying and researching in Germany on 26 April 2025. The event was part of MCC’s Reach-out and Move (ROM) Program, which aimed to invite various international academic exchange agencies to increase student and faculty mobility in the academe.
During the session, Dr. Monica Fröhlich, representative of DAAD, shared advantages of considering Germany as a destination for further studies and research. She highlighted Germany’s strong research culture and the involvement of numerous international companies. Dr. Fröhlich also outlined the steps in preparing and starting the application process.
Participants were particularly eager to learn about scholarship and grant opportunities. In response, Dr. Fröhlich offered valuable advice on how to strengthen applications for competitive grants. Interestingly, she noted that relatively few Filipinos currently apply for such opportunities, suggesting that the Philippines could expect greater attention and support in the future. Afterwards, an open forum provided a platform to the participants to seek further guidance regarding the topic.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Raymond John Vergara, Vice President for Global Relations, Opportunities, and Workforce Development at MCC, encouraged participants to take full advantage of the ROM Program. He emphasized MCC’s commitment to increasing student and faculty mobility in the coming years. Recently, MCC secured an Erasmus+ Grant that made student mobility possible, and the College aspires to extend similar opportunities to the wider community as part of its mission to make global education more accessible and inclusive.
