Mabalacat City College unveiled the winners of the Innovative, Sustainable, Impactful Programs (ISIP) on 22 December 2023. This lauds the remarkable efforts of various programs dedicated to advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Across three distinct categories – Office/Unit, Student Organization, and Institute – outstanding initiatives were recognized for their commitment to sustainable change.
In the Office/Unit Category, MCC Kayantabe emerged as the frontrunner, clinching 1st Place with their Project Sayawit which showcased community-responsive initiatives that effectively addresses the preservation of indigenous culture using digital technology. Meanwhile, the Center for Community Research and Innovation claimed 2nd Place with their project, BAgong pag-asa LAyon para sa mga kapatid na KATutubo (New Hope for our Indigenous Brother and Sisters): Community Empowerment Through Science and Technology in Sitio Haduan: Equipping Local Residence with Necessary Skills and Competence, marking a significant step to community empowerment, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation. While the Office of the Vice President for Student Life secured 3rd Place with their project, MCC Corporate Boutique, exemplifying unique and comprehensive approach to supporting students through provision of corporate attires, especially those from financially constrained backgrounds.
For the Student Organization Category, the League of Social Studies Catalysts claimed 1st Place for BASix Program. This project focuses on waste conversion, sustainable farming, and community education, combined with strong partnerships and a holistic strategy, making it a promising initiative. Meanwhile, the Science Society secured 2nd Place with their project Balakat NutriBar: One Local Nutrition Snack, One Healthy Community, promising approach to addressing community nutritional needs using local resources. While Pantalakayan earned 3rd Place with their project ABeHCA: Advocating for the Balakat, Mabalacat History and Cultural Awareness, raising awareness about local history and heritage, combined with an interactive and engaging approach.
In the Institute Category, the Institute of Arts and Sciences prevailed with their "River Restoration Project," exhibiting a strong focus on environmental conservation and compliance with legislative requirements.
The judges for the competition were Dr. Jones Brent of Konan University, Japan, Dr. Trịnh Phương Ngọc of Tan Trao University, Vietnam, and Ms. Serinah Tan Sok Ping of the University of Ryukyus, Japan.
