MCC Signs MoU for Industry-Academic Partnership in South Korea

September 01, 2022

Wonju City, South Korea – Mabalacat City College (MCC) and Halla University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 1 September 2022 for mutual faculty, student, and academic exchanges. MCC was represented by the College President Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong and MCC Korean International Officer Professor Sunny Hann of MCC’s External and International Affairs office - who likewise arranged and coordinated everything for this trip to be possible.

In an exclusive discussion, MCC and Halla University officials headed by University President Sim Sang Duk communicated their plans for a community college framework and possible collaboration in the areas of internships, faculty exchanges, and English summer programs.

According to Halla University, this partnership was inspired by MCC’s recent opening of the first smart hybrid classroom in the Philippines last month in cooperation with HUAWEI Philippines ICT.

Halla University believes in actively responding to a fast-changing world, and the recent partnership of MCC and HUAWEI in the Philippines provided an essential educational environment for the 21st century learners. With this, students can study in a more innovative environment.

This fits the pursuit of an innovative mindset promoted by Halla University. Also, the institution hopes that through this MoU, MCC can activate convergent academic exchanges and faculty/student exchange programs in the fields of computer, tourism management, and business administration such as dual degree programs.

After the signing ceremony, Halla University officials demonstrated a GPS-driven smart car as a part of the technology transfer partnership with MCC. They also discussed the grants for robotic equipment, which will enhance MCC’s educational programs.

Halla University is located in Wonju, South Korea, and is part of Halla Group - a collection of multiple businesses including automotive suppliers.

Aside from this MoU signing, MCC has also been busy strengthening educational partnerships since their arrival in South Korea. At Heongsan Song Ho University, MCC went for a tripartite MoU (industry-academic partnership) signing with National Federation of Korea University presidents and S&J Technology for a one-year course on Smart Car E-Mobility for community students with direct employment opportunities after a year.

MCC also attended another MoU signing with 10 CEOs for industry-academic partnerships, attended a coffee training and barista certification with Song Ho University for internships, and attended a smart farm ribbon cutting showcasing different products for industry internship.
