Mabalacat City College students and CCRI (Center for Community Research and Innovation) staff presented at TUMANA: the 10th Malikhaing Guro International Conference Caravan on Culture-Based Education, last 16 September 2023 at Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Manaoag, Pangasinan.
MCC staff including Research and Innovation Project Coordinator Cyril Ann P. Abalos, presented her study entitled Food Heritage and History: The Impact of Clark Air Base on Kapampangan Food Culture (1946-1991). Research Associate Larrey Y. Ordoñez and Cristine Festin, presented their study entitled Preserving Traditions: A Study of Food Culture and Heritage in Santa Rita, Pampanga, after the Mount Pinatubo Eruption (1991-2002). Lastly, Center of Community Research and Innovation Director, Mr. James Darwin Lagman, presented his study entitled Natural Disasters and Climate Change: A Challenge to the Food Security of Aeta Mag-antsi (1991-2022).
Meanwhile, MCC AB History students John Marc Fernandez and Jolina Dimatulac also presented their study entitled Food Heritage and History: The Impact of Clark Air Base on Kapampangan Food Culture (1946-1991).
Some of the papers presented were derived from the representatives’ undergraduate theses with the guidance of Ms. Jhannaine Delaserna, Mr. John Edward Alfonso, and Mr. James Darwin Lagman, and assistance from the Center for Community Research and Innovation in preparation for the conference.
Through participating in activities that emphasizes food security, biodiversity, and culture-based education, MCC shows its commitment to Sustainable Development Goals 4.7. MCC students and staff are exposed to research opportunities promoting culture through the exploration of food that reflects our cultural identity.
