Mabalacat City College joins University of Ryukus Japan for a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) on the course Introduction to Linguistics. COIL enables select students from MCC have a hands-on experience on learning and interacting with fellow students from Japan’s Ryukyus University. The activity was held on May 27, 2021.
COIL is now the new norm of education and partnerships are being forged by educational institutions all over the world whose goal is the best learning atmosphere for everyone who wishes to take on the challenge of schooling in this time of the pandemic.
The emergence of the first known infections from SARS-CoV-2 discovered in Wuhan, China last year has brought about major changes around the world. Countries all over the world had to make major and necessary adjustments in almost all areas of life from governance, to travel and to normal day-to-day living.
The Education sector also faced such major changes. Educational institutions had to come up with alternative ways and means in order to continue the education of students. Staying at home to be safe was not a hindrance in the quest of institutions and leaders to give their students the best option of continuing studies while at home.
“COIL enabled our faculty to match-up with other faculty from other international schools, to exchange their syllabi, lesson plans, and other reference learning materials. This is a new learning strategy that we adopted in line with the flexible-learning framework, which will eventually be beneficial among the faculty of the institution”, said Mr. Raymond John D. Vergara, Vice-President for External Affairs.
Pandemic or not, the emergence of Covid19 brought along with it new styles and platforms of international academic exchanges. COIL allows teachers and students from different countries to have academic exchanges virtually like logging in normal lecture hours/semestral courses/activities/projects and different advocacies via the online platform. Students and faculty get the chance to interact with their counterparts from all over the world in real-time and without the need for any travel. A working internet connection is all that is necessary in order to collaborate.
