Abstract

Urban forest management has grown more critical as climate change and urban heat island effects threaten both human well-being and the ecological health of green spaces. In Mabalacat City, the absence of an effective digital tool has limited the capacity of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) to fully implement conservation efforts. This study introduces ArborWatch, a web-based system developed to digitize and streamline tree conservation and record-keeping. ArborWatch enables CENRO to maintain accurate tree records and visualize them on an interactive map — bridging the gap between traditional monitoring and modern digital management. Built using back-end technologies (TypeScript, JavaScript, Firebase) and a front-end powered by Tailwind CSS and Vite.js, the system delivers a user-friendly interface and robust database management. Testing results yield high user satisfaction: 4.32 in alpha testing and 4.47 in beta testing, reflecting its reliability, usability, and security. By aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ArborWatch promotes sustainability, supports climate action, enhances terrestrial ecosystems, and strengthens community engagement in environmental planning.
