Abstract
The study entitled “I-TUNGKOD: A Smart Assistive Cane with Ultrasonic Proximity Sensing, GPS Tracking, and Emergency Communication Features” aims to provide a technological solution to enhance the mobility and safety of visually impaired individuals. The system integrates ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection, a water sensor for wet surfaces, a HuskyLens for object recognition, and a GPS module paired with a SIM800L GSM module for real-time location tracking and emergency communication. Using an ESP8266 as the central controller, the cane provides timely alerts to the user through a buzzer, ensuring safe navigation in various environments. The evaluation of the system was conducted using ISO 25010 standards across functional suitability, compatibility, usability, and portability. Results from the alpha and beta testing phases showed that the system performs its intended functions reliably, with particularly high scores in functional suitability, compatibility, and portability. Usability was rated positively but identified as an area for improvement, suggesting enhancements in feedback mechanisms and sensor prioritization. Overall, the findings indicate that the I-TUNGKOD smart cane is an effective assistive device that promotes independence, safety, and confidence among visually impaired users. Recommendations include optimizing sensor integration, improving user interaction, and expanding GPS features to further enhance the system’s functionality and reliability.
