CHED Chairperson Popoy De Vera visits MCC Digihub Plus in Camachiles

July 12, 2021

Chairperson Prospero “Popoy” De Vera and other CHED national and regional officials visited MCC Digihub Plus in Barangay Camachiles during his visit to MCC. MCC Digihub Plus is the expanded design of the MCC Digihub.

In the previous semesters, the MCC Digihub in seven barangays served as the wifi access point to students without internet at home. It also served as a pick-up and drop-off point for students’ printed modules.

This coming semester, MCC will transition to full online to give students an experience of complete digital learning. Hence the hubs are now equipped with a video camera, headset with microphones, and other gadgets supporting online learning.

There were also added features such as a computer system exclusive for portal access to grades, and online counseling. During the visit, Chairperson Popoy witnessed how the hub established a remote connection with a guidance counselor at the main campus.

President Ong also showed him the cozy spot where students in the neighborhood can meet and chat which is a simulation of a campus experience. She explained that a year in this pandemic has already taken its toll on everyone’s mental health and the spot provides a resemblance of normalcy. The news delighted the Chairperson which prompted more questions on how the hub operates. In the end, he even made a suggestion to extend its operation to nighttime when curfews are lifted.

MCC earned the nods of other barangay officials to upgrade other hubs during the latter's regular meeting. To date, others hubs are being refurbished.

A week ago, MCC Chairman Hon. Mayor Crisostomo C. Garbo visited the site before renovations began.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected student council is also coming up with programs to utilize the hub to fight mental health issues. One of the programs that is considered is “Barkadahan sa Hub”, where a group of friends can meet at the hub to do academic or even non-academic activities. Mechanics shall be released soon.

According to MCC Building Management Officer, Mr. Democrito D Dolandolan Jr., all hubs shall be ready for use in time for the opening of the new academic year this September. He mentioned that all hubs carry the MCC branding of crimson and gray “to maintain the MCC vibe”.
