Mabalacat City College (MCC) has teamed up with BPI Direct BanKo Inc. (BanKo) to simplify the process of opening bank accounts and managing finances for students. This collaboration allows students to open a BanKo account either online or on-campus, encouraging them to begin saving and investing early in their financial journey. So far, 136 students have taken advantage of this opportunity to open savings accounts, signaling the success of the program in promoting financial inclusion.
Through this partnership, MCC aims to instill the importance of financial responsibility, such as budgeting and saving, among its students. In addition, workshops on financial literacy will be conducted to equip students with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions for the future. BanKo has committed to conducting this initiative on a monthly basis, ensuring that more students have the opportunity to open accounts and engage in financial literacy workshops throughout the academic year.
According to the 2021 Financial Inclusion Survey by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), only about 56% of adults in the country were part of the banked population. To address this gap, the BSP has been actively collaborating with financial institutions to make banking more accessible and inclusive. The MCC-BanKo partnership aligns with the national government’s goals and contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4.4, which focuses on increasing the number of people with relevant skills for financial success.
Through this initiative, MCC hopes to empower students to take control of their financial well-being and pave the way for a secure future.
