MCC joins Philippine-Canada Network for Sustainability (PCNS)

Mabalacat City College (MCC) has recently become a member of the esteemed Philippine-Canada Network for Sustainability (PCNS). Representing MCC, Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong participated in the Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony for new members of PCNS at the University of the Philippines - Los Baños on 27 September 2023.

PCNS is a network comprising universities and colleges in the Philippines that share a common vision with their Canadian counterparts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Ambassador of Canada to the Philippines, his Excellency, David B. Hartman emphasized the significance of climate change, the well-being of indigenous peoples, and promoting economic development through education using microcredentials as pivotal objectives for both countries.

The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the opening of the PCNS Office, along with the launch of "Engendering Climate Resilience and Sustainable Valorization of Bukidnon Indigenous Food Products," also known as Project MOCHA (Management of Coffee, Honey and Adtai). This project, supported by the Canadian Government, marks the first initiative under PCNS.

The PCNS consists of the pioneering member universities and colleges namely: Don Mariano Memorial State University, Far Eastern University, Northern Bukidnon State College, Panpacific University, Romblon State University, Tarlac State University The Mainla Times College of Subic, Unibersidad de Dagupan Inc., University of Souther Mindanao, World Citi Colleges, WCC - Aeronotical and Technological College. The new members are: Bukidnon State University, Bulacan Agricultural State College, Laguna State Polytechnic University, Mindoro State University, Miriam College, Philippine State College of Aeronautics, and Mabalacat City College – the first local college to join PCNS.s

The event was intended to empower women and promote leadership and resilience.
