PEACEtival kicks-off with Peace Pal Project

September 22, 2023

The Peace Month festivities at Mabalacat City College commenced on 21 September 2023, marking the International Day of Peace, by unveiling the Peace Pal Project in collaboration with the University of Ryukyus, Japan, and Tan Trao University, Vietnam.

This activity is spearheaded by the Linkages and International Affairs Office in partnership with the MCC Campus Youth Ministry. The Peace Pal Project seeks to foster robust interpersonal connections by pairing international college and university students who advocate for peace education and global citizenship.

Numerous students across various institutes and programs enthusiastically engaged in the initiative, sharing their visions, hopes, aspirations, and proposals for a harmonious local and global society. All penned letters will journey to Japan and Vietnam, eventually reaching their international counterparts.

At the heart of this initiative lies the vision of nurturing a global community united by shared aspirations, even amidst diversity. Complementing these messages of peace are paper crane origamis, a poignant symbol of peace, crafted by students and staff in past Peace Month celebrations.

Additionally, Bingo Cards of Kindness were distributed in the event. Instead of typical numbers, these cards featured acts of kindness awaiting accomplishment, encouraging participants to realize their intrinsic capacity for goodwill. This project embodies a powerful message: kindness is innate and ever-present in humanity. By propagating acts of kindness, MCC asserts that peace can not only be promoted but also fortified.

The PEACEtival 2023 is set to culminate on 27 September 2023. Highlights include the time-honored World Peace Flag Ceremony, the Planting of Peace Poles at the Kamikaze Shrine, a signature campaign advocating for the Kamikaze Shrine's designation as a Peace Park, a Peace Walk through the city, and a grand Peace Concert.
