YTPI Presents Slude Waste Reutilization to MCC, MCAO and CENTO

11 August 2023—Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc. (YTPI) discussed sludge waste reutilization project to Mabalacat City College (MCC), Mabalacat City Agriculture Office (MCAO), Community Environment and Natural Environment Office (CENRO) at the MCC Hometown Bar and Restaurant. YTPI sludge waste, a byproduct of wastewater treatment, had the potential to become the next project for the MCC innovation class and benefit the Mabalacat community in various ways.

The primary goal of this project is to mitigate sludge-related challenges. With YTPI producing approximately 10,000 kilograms of sludge waste per month, the company could potentially save 180,000 pesos each month by repurposing this waste, while simultaneously providing valuable resources for student and researchers.

This also has the potential to benefit local farmers by providing them with cost-effective fertilizer solutions. Additionally, ornamental plants in Mabalacat City parks could thrive with the application of this repurposed waste. MCC's innovation students were also poised to gain substantial learning opportunities from this real-world project.

Furthermore, a mutual agreement to integrate this innovative approach into MCC's ongoing environmental projects. This collaboration would not only help mitigate waste-related issues but also provide support to local farmers by reducing their expenses.

Present in the meeting are MCC President Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, MCC Kayantabe headed by Ms. Carol Arboleda, YTPI led by Environment Management System Mr. Reynante Legion and Mabalacat City Agriculture Office (MCAO) High Value Crop Coordinator Mr. Alex Layson, and CENRO headed by Environmental Specialist II Ms. Jerni Anne Peña.

Mabalacat City College's dedication to sustainable practices, particularly in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, which promotes sustainable consumption and production patterns, was highlighted throughout the discussions. The college's commitment to environmental stewardship was evident, and this collaborative effort with YTPI stood as a testament to their unwavering advocacy for a greener and more sustainable future.
