Mabalacat City College Celebrates the 2021 National Heritage Month

May 31, 2021

Heritage, as a source of identity, is an important aspect in empowering local communities and allowing marginalized groups to actively engage in social and cultural life. It can also offer tried-and-true conflict resolution and reconciliation strategies.

Thus, MCC-Internationalization Office encouraged every Mabalaqueños to resemble a sense of appreciation for the rich and local heritage of Mabalacat City in line with the celebration of the 2021 National Heritage Month with the theme: “Victory and Humanity: Upholding Filipino Heritage and Identity”. The office featured some of the local heritage of the city:

  1. Church of the Divine Grace - Construction began in October 1904, under the guidance of Capitan Dominicano Tizon. The church was placed under the patronage of Ntra. Sra.de Gracia, a recollecting devotion.
  2. Mabalacat Elementary School (Poblacion, c.a 1900s) - The elementary school was created following the 1907 Gabaldon Act which appropriated P1 million for the nationwide construction of schools. Built on a lot donated by Mrs. Rufino Angeles de Ramos.
  3. Old Mabalacat Municipio (Poblacion, c.a 1900s-20s) - The old Casa Trinidad was rebuilt as a one-floor-wooden structure during the American occupation. It became a 2-story building between 1928-31 and was renovated in 1951.

“This sense of appreciation for the rich and local heritage of Mabalacat City, is also a way of showing that Mabalacat City College is a Culture-Aware institution, it resembles the trait of being a proud Mabalaqueño”, said Raymond John D. Vergara, MPR, Vice President for External Affairs.
