Abstract
Technology plays an important role in our society, especially in the field of education. It is quite regrettable that people, particularly the deaf, still face a lot of challenges in acquiring an education. Their learning methods are different as compared to hearing people. They use Sign Language (SL) rather than natural language to communicate and learn. They are required to put a lot of effort into learning different concepts using conventional pedagogies. Therefore, there is a dire need for some assistive technology to improve their learn-ability and understandability. That is why the researcher of this study aimed to develop an innovative offline application that would help the deaf people and their families communicate more effectively utilizing Basic American Sign Language. The chosen methodology is an iterative waterfall model which primarily focuses on preliminary growth and design, then gradually develops until the final software is completely created. By following the necessary methods and procedures, the researchers were successful in providing “AGSL: A Guide to Sign Language using Android App for Deaf Person” that can be downloaded through google play store. The application was tested using test cases based on the ISO/IEC 25010 standard, and the test results were marked "Passed." Overall, the testing was successful in that no issues were generated and the application continued to function properly. The study's objectives were completed, and it is now available for usage by deaf people and their families.
