Abstract

The study focused on the design and development of Quarantine Life – A Visual Novel Game. The main purpose of this study was to raise awareness regarding the circumstances the pandemic has fostered. This was done by developing a visual novel game using a variety of technologies, informing players with the IATF guidelines in the game’s narrative, implementing minigames that add playability, presenting the ending summaries, and testing the game using test cases. The methodology used in this study was Rapid Application Development (RAD) which is an agile framework that focuses on rapid prototyping. It was used as it allowed the researchers of this study to divide the development of the visual novel game into smaller, separate, actionable tasks, and present the game to clients in less time. The main findings of this study were that the Quarantine Life was designed and developed successfully; and the game’s functionality, usability, portability, and compatibility were tested with satisfactory results. The visual novel game is compatible with devices that have Android OS version 5 and up. Overall, the developed game met its specified objectives, but can be further improved by adding character and scene customization, medical minigames, and iOS support compatibility.
