June 18, 2021

Twenty (20) selected students from the Mabalacat City College together with the 80-student counterparts from the University of Ryukyus, Japan, participated in the recently concluded Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) 2021, on Thursday, May 27. COIL showcased diversity and perspectives through in-depth discussions on Introduction to Linguistics. It is also a new educational norm in the academe that aims to form partnerships among International Educational institutions in delivering the best educational experience for anyone who wants to take up the responsibility of attending school amid the pandemic.

Serinah Tan, a student, and participant of COIL expressed her appreciation and delight to the MCCians, saying: “I remain impressed by the consistently high level of communication skills shown by your students. They conducted themselves with a high level of confidence and throughout my observations, they were always smiling and visibly engaged in the group discussions.” Each group is composed of 3-4 participants, made up of students from different countries namely Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Hawaii, which were subsequently instructed to communicate and discuss privately in their respective breakout rooms.

Gwen, a 3rd Year BSHRM student of MCC together with Leoveras and Opriasa, remarked: “It was a memorable moment for the three of us”. They attest to the value and significance of the online international activity as a worthwhile experience not only for the students but also for the institutions which they represent.

COIL's vision is to enhance the capability of the students to interact internationally in spite of language and cultural barriers and to broaden the learners’ knowledge in the field of Linguistics.
