MCC Faculty Attends “Connecting Classrooms Beyond Borders Through COIL” Orientation by University of the Ryukyus, Japan

The world is shrinking because of our technology and avenues for learning keep on expanding. One example of such an avenue is COIL or Collaborative Online International Learning.

Today, February 28, 2022, through MCC's Internationalization Office, MCC faculty, attended “Connecting Classroom Beyond Borders Through COIL” by the University of the Ryukyus, Japan via Zoom.

Main speaker, Global and Regional Studies Professor Ryuji Ishikawa, gave a broad overview of the programs available for collaborative online learning. He expressed that COIL is a new educational norm and that educational institutions all over the world are forming partnerships to deliver the best educational experience for everyone including the faculty through faculty development.

Subsequently, Ms. Asami Nago explained the benefits of COIL. The benefits include, but is not limited to: promoting cultural diversity; active (interactive) learning; and integrates new teaching methods and materials for instructors.

Mabalacat City College, through its Internationalization Office, has been engaging in COIL's with various higher education institutions around the globe including the University of Nottingham (Malaysia), and Lone Star College (USA), and Langara College of Canada.

Believing that international linkages directly impact workforce development, Mabalacat City College (MCC) President Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong shared MCC’s best internationalization practices in a presentation titled, “Enhancing Workforce Development Through Internationalization,” during Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite (EAC-Cavite)’s Academic Convocation, where she served as a guest speaker on March 18, 2025, at EAC-Cavite Multipurpose Hall.
