UP Manila Visits MCC for Research and Community Extension Project

University of the Philippines (Manila) Professor and Manila Studies Program Convenor Dr. Ma. Teresa G. De Guzman together with Mr. Norman King, the first Aeta graduate of the University of the Philippines, and Mr. Jad De Guzman, a Behavioral Sciences graduate, visited Mabalacat City College (MCC) on February 17, 2022, for research collaborations concerning Philippine National Railways (PNR) Mabalacat Station with MCC Department of History and MCC Kayantabe.

Dr. De Guzman discussed UP Manila’s intentions to tie up with MCC to work together on a research and community extension project. The research of Dr. De Guzman delves into the different narratives of the history of the Philippine National Railway (PNR) that also shows its ethnographic details. The collaboration sets MCC's focus which will be on the local setting aiming to improve the PNR Mabalacat station, considered a heritage structure, located in Aguso, San Francisco Mabalacat, Pampanga.

Furthermore, UP Manila looks to forge a partnership with the indigenous community of the Aetas in Pampanga. Mr. Norman King would assist in documenting their existing narratives such as language, culture, beliefs, folklore, music, and dances, among others.  

MCC Kayantabe’s advocacy is currently centered on literacy improvement, environmental awareness, and cultural preservation.
