Mabalacat City College and Mutya Publishing House Inc. Forge Book Publishing Partnership

20 April 2023 – Mabalacat City College hosted a closed-door meeting with Mutya Publishing House Inc., at MCC Hometown Bar and Restaurant to discuss a partnership on publishing books for MCC. The meeting was held in confidence and both parties are currently working on finalizing the Memorandum of Agreement.

The proposed partnership will involve publication of books written by some members of the MCC faculty which will be used as learning materials for MCC students. The project also aims to promote the professional growth of its faculty by giving them an opportunity to have their work published.

One of the main focuses of the project is to ensure that the contents of the books are contextualized to be relevant to an international, national, and local audience. This approach is in line with MCC's commitment to being a community-driven institution that prioritizes the needs of its students and the community it serves.

The books will be printed on newsprint, a recycled and environmental-friendly material. This decision is a deliberate effort to champion the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, which seeks to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns.

The first set of books to be published will be the General Education Worktext. It is expected to be released before the beginning of the academic year 2023-2024. The project also seeks to provide students of MCC with high-quality learning materials that are relevant to their academic needs and align with the institution's vision of promoting industry and community-driven learning.

Present during the meeting were representatives from Mutya Publishing including Editor-in-chief Dr. Maria Teresa Antonino, Officer-in-Charge for Editorial Mr. Alvin Cortes, and Mr. Adrian Magsumbol – BDC who discussed the perks of book publishing as a community college. Representing MCC were AVPAA Dr. Romeo Erese III, IAS Dean Dr. Marilyn Arcilla, IHTM Dean Ms. Jenyffer Merza, and IBCE Dean Dr. Josephine Evangelista.

The partnership between MCC and Mutya Publishing represents an exciting opportunity for the institution to provide its students with high-quality, relevant learning materials that reflect the needs of the community. By prioritizing sustainability and community-driven learning, MCC is demonstrating its commitment to promoting a better quality of life for all.
