Mabalacat City College recognizes the importance of research in every institution for the advancement of knowledge. It has a great potential to elevate a nation. Researchers bring out discoveries and innovation. But conducting research is a challenge during this pandemic, especially for the inexperienced.

In line with this, MCC’s Institute of Computing Studies, with the support of the entire ICS faculty, Institute Student Councils of ICS headed by the institute dean, Dr. Dennis L. Tacadena, and Ms. Irene L. Gunning as ICS Councils Adviser and Event Organizer, conducted a webinar for 3rd year and 4th year ICS students, entitled “ICT Research Amidst the Pandemic” via Microsoft Teams held last May 21, 2021.

Dr. Mary Ann Quioc presented the first part of the webinar. She introduced the basics of research and gave tips on how to survive on research. She highlighted the important considerations in researching and recommended some topics on ICT research. She also discussed the typical structure of an academic article, styles, guidelines in research titles, abstract, introduction, citations, related literature, methodology, presentation of results, conclusion, and recommendation.

Mr. Mark Cruz presented the second part of the webinar. He discussed Digital Empowerment Towards Research Survival in the Pandemic. He began his presentation by asking the participants some questions in which they replied interactively through Slido, a Q&A, and a polling app. He introduced Canva to encourage students to make better designs for their presentations and graphics on their research projects. Canva is a web-based graphic design tool. It is free to use with a huge library of graphics templates and vectors. Using Canva, he demonstrates the design for presentation, logos, poster, resume, and others; and modification, insertion, and animate design using Canva tools.
