MCC Kayantabe, MCAO, YTPI Unite for Sludge Reutilization Project

May 19, 2023

19 May 2023 - Mabalacat City College (MCC) Kayantabe and Mabalacat City Agriculture Office (MCAO) attended a closed-door meeting with Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc. (YTPI) to discuss their project on the reutilization of sludge waste produced by the company.

The Environmental Management Section Manager of YTPI, Mr. Reynante Legion, introduced their company’s environmental initiatives including their study on the use of sludge waste as fertilizer for trees and consumable crops.

In the study conducted by YTPI, it was found that sludge was the company’s most produced waste. According to Mr. Legion, their annual Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TLCP) results confirm that their sludge waste has the potential to be used as fertilizer. The parties agreed to tap this into the existing environmental projects of MCC such as the Balakat Tree planting project and the use of organic fertilizer in agriculture which will help farmers lessen their expenses.

Among the present were MCC Kayantabe Manager Ms. Carol  R. Arboleda, Partnership and External Relations Officer Ms. Marilyn Gomez, and High-Value Crop Program Coordinator of MCAO Mr. Alex Layson.

MCC continues to champion its advocacy on Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG12, which promotes sustainable consumption and production patterns. MCC, YTPI and MCAO expressed their enthusiasm towards this project.
