Empowering Single Mothers: MCC - L&T Certificate in Sewing Kicks Off with First Batch

In collaboration with L&T International Group Phils., Inc. (L&T) and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), Mabalacat City College (MCC) officially commenced the first batch of the MCC - L&T Certificate in Sewing on 06 November 2023 at MCC Lifelong Learning Center. This transformative 18-day program is designed to impart essential skills and competencies in sewing, offering a pathway to potential job opportunities within the industry upon completion.

The current training comprises of 35 single mothers, underscoring the program's commitment to empowering women and supporting their economic independence.

The initial week of training covered a diverse range of topics essential for a well-rounded understanding of the sewing industry. Participants engaged in discussions on soft skills related to mental health in the workplace and workplace ethics, basic safety measures, and an introduction to the operation of industrial sewing machines. The curriculum also provided an in-depth exploration of the parts and types of single-needle machines, various kinds of sewing machines, and the nuances of tension in sewing.

Practical aspects of the training included sessions on proper handling and control of sewing machines, correct posture during operation, and a practice paper test incorporating straight, zigzag, snake, and spiral stitches. Trainees were also guided through the intricacies of threading for sewing needle machines and instructed on properly using the bobbin case, winder, and rewinder.

As the second week unfolds, participants are now delving into more advanced topics, including single-fold and double-fold handling techniques and the operation for setting pockets.

This partnership adds a significant dimension to the program, aligning it with broader employment initiatives and creating a bridge between skill development and job placement. The MCC - L&T Certificate in Sewing equips individuals with technical expertise and fosters a comprehensive understanding of the industry's nuances and demands.
