16 August 2024 – Mabalacat City College (MCC), through its Workforce Development Office and Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management successfully concluded a 50-hour Bread and Pastry Training Program, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Mabalacat. The completion ceremony for the 70 participants was held at the MCC Hometown Bar and Restaurant.
The ceremony was attended by key officers from both institutions, including MCC President Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, VP for Global Relations, Opportunities, and Workforce Development Raymond John D. Vergara, Dean of the Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management Jennyfer N. Merza, AVP for Workforce Development Engr. Joshua Ken J. Policarpio, and course trainers Chef Harold Van Aquino and Chef John Michael Sanchez. Representatives from the Rotary Club of Mabalacat, including President Brenda Santos-Sy, President William Banal, Past President Elmer Hernandez, and Director Avelino Antonio, were also in attendance.
In her remarks, Rotary Club of Mabalacat President Brenda Santos-Sy emphasized the significance of applying newly acquired skills to contribute positively to the community, highlighting the value of seizing opportunities for personal and communal growth.
Dr. Michelle Aguilar-Ong, in her address, encouraged the trainees to continue pursuing their passions and dreams, noting that such perseverance is key to their future success.
The certificate program was designed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge, cultivating a sense of pride and confidence. This initiative empowers trainees to pursue successful careers in the culinary and hospitality sectors.
The training program benefited community members such as single parents, housewives, aspiring entrepreneurs, and working individuals seeking to advance their careers. Additionally, several MCC faculty members participated to enhance their expertise, which they will impart to their students.
The program adheres to industry standards, as evidenced by the first cohort of trainees who successfully passed the TESDA National Certification II (NC II) assessment. MCC is committed to supporting the next batch of completers as they prepare for the NC II certification by TESDA.
This joint initiative by Mabalacat City College and the Rotary Club of Mabalacat reflects a shared commitment to developing a skilled and competitive workforce within the community.
